2017 Christmas Tree Decorating Contest




The general rules for this contest are as follows:


  1. Either individuals or groups may decorate Christmas trees.  Examples of participants may include youth groups, adult groups, HELPS ministry teams, families, etc.  Open to both members and non-members (no outside organizations).
  2. The event is limited to one entry per person or group.  There is no entry fee.  The submission of a completed Official Entry Form is required.
  3. All items required to participate in the Christmas tree decorating contest must be provided by the individual or group. CCC will not provide trees or decorations.  No live tress.  The size of the tree should be at least 6 feet (minimum) to 8 feet (maximum) high.
  4. Hazardous items are not allowed, including but not limited to tiki torches, gas, candles -­‐powered generators or other flammable objects.  Decorations must hang on the tree, not sit alongside the tree or be held up by any means other than the tree itself.  Space limit – no more than 1-2 feet outside the tree.
  5. When designing your decorations, please remember this is an event for individuals of all ages. Decorations may be funny, quirky, etc., but must be in good taste.  Columbus Christian Center (CCC) Church reserves the right to reject or remove any entry that fails to meet these standards or that is otherwise unacceptable or inappropriate, as staff may determine in their sole discretion.
  6. Participants must maintain their respective Christmas tree from the time of installation of the entry through the judging process as described herein, which will cover a period of at least 6 weeks.  An individual participant or up to 2 participants (nominate a lead) per group will be permitted entry to CCC during normal hours of operation (not during an Encounter) for the limited purpose of monitoring that participant’s entry to ensure that it remains in good condition. Normal business hours are Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The office is closed daily for lunch 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  While participants must maintain their entries following submission, they may not make any substantial changes or modifications to their entries after installation. Trees will be photographed to ensure no modifications are made after installation.
  7. CCC is not responsible for any damage or loss to any decorations at any time before, during or after the Christmas events.
  8. Participants must complete an Official Entry Form no later than Sunday, November 19th at 5:00 p.m.  Participants will be assigned a location for their Christmas tree.  All Christmas trees will be in the Airlock and Grand Concourse at CCC.Trees should be installed and completely decorated by end of day December 1st. Participants can install and decorate their trees on any of the following dates between 9:30-11a, 1-3:30p, 6-9p, Monday, November 27th; Wednesday, November 29th; Thursday, November 20th; Friday, December 1st
  9. Each entry will be judged against all other entries and will be placed depending on the number of votes received.  Votes will be cast by members and CCC guests (age 6 and up) between December 3rd and December 19th (Sundays and Tuesdays after the encounter) with the winner being announced on December 24th. All judging is final. Everyone votes only once for one (1) tree (winner); Trees will be named (and numbered). In case of a tie, a panel of judges will decide.
  10. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Christmas Trees, plus a Best of Show award, which may be awarded to any entry, including one that also places in the top 3.
  11. Prizes will be announced on December 24th with plaques being sent out after Christmas.
  12. Winners, participants and/or images from the contest may be posted on CCC’s website or otherwise used in publicity or promotional materials concerning the Christmas event.
  13. All decorations must be removed from CCC between December 26th and December 30th. Tree takedown times will be determined. Participants are responsible for removing their trees and decorations. CCC is not responsible for decorations that are not removed by December 31st.
